post-beatles

this song makes me extremely sad.

it's all about the "good 'ol days" when the fab four were together and at the height of their success.

in my opinion, george is the best beatle. period. by this video alone, you get a taste of his personality and qualities as a musician and as a person. he liked to collaborate a lot with other musicians (in this video you can spy elton john and jeff lynne) and was very successful in doing so (check out traveling wilburys - dylan, orbison, petty and lynne).

john was kind of a dick (for obvious reasons) but an excellent songwriter and political and social activist. ringo wasn't great but i appreciate him as a person and his little hits like 'it don't come easy' and 'photograph.' paul is a great performer with i would say the largest following and probably the best talent overall but he refuses to tour with ringo and i think that's just stupid (but his new single is pretty good).

but george. he had that special something. the man was brilliant.
i have the utmost respect for him and the deepest connection with his music.

here are some good ones:

//a rare take of 'let it down'

//i live for you

//all things must pass

to a rare, beautiful and gentle soul. cheers, george.

book review: red earth and pouring rain

my friend recommended this book to me over a year ago, and i've had it ever since. i picked it up again recently and instantly fell in love with it. not at all what i was expecting but i was very pleasantly surprised. the novel is woven so deeply with layers and layers of character and plot development and every story is heavy with imagery and relatability. it's not a quick read. it's something you digest a while in between other books. but i definitely think it's worth checking out. it's great for slow nights and lazy afternoons.

august and everything after

i'm going to rehash this album again because it's august 1st.
GREAT ALBUM.
possibly my favorite album.
it's perfect for the creeping autumn and a long road trip.
