add a few deep shadows, wide angles, and extreme close-ups and you've got yourself a malick masterpiece.

in honor of to the wonder (which i still have yet to see) i thought i'd revisit some of my favorite malick moments. 

first on the list, the new world (ahhhh such a gorgeous film//my favorite) 

next is days of heaven

then thin red line

then badlands

but i'm a little worried.

to the wonder is getting pretty bad reviews.

okay, i take it back.

you still have too many characters but who cares. 

i'm on book two, trying to catch up with the series, but i doubt i'll be able to stop after book three. i'll probably stop after book four just because my mom's copy of a dance with dragons is hardcover and heavy as hell. ya, no. 

anyway, my favorite characters so far are: tyrion, arya, daenerys and jaqen h'ghar. 

also, i love that the books are so different from the series. i mean, the series is accurate and amazing but the two stand alone, kind of like harry potter. 

george, i put cormac mccarthy on hold for you. that never happens. ever.

the air is getting heavy and warm and it's bringing me back to the summer days of my childhood, hiding from the sun and homework and every care fathomable. now when i drive through the thick smell of lilacs and late spring rain with the windows rolled down and my hair dancing, i like to think about those days. these are some bands that help me remember.

FINALLY on netflix. 

this film was breathtaking and utterly heartbreaking. mind you, i consume period pieces like water but i found this one to be something special. it was dark, it was gritty and it was gorgeous. i am a huge fan of mads mikkelsen (see valhalla rising/ the hunt/ and hannibal) and his performance gave me goosebumps. alicia vikander was stunning as well and their chemistry together almost trumps elizabeth and darcy. almost. 

the director, nikolaj arcel, wrote the screenplay for the girl with the dragon tattoo (no surprises there) and i really really really REALLY need him to make more movies. come on man. 

also, this film should've won big time for best foreign film. sorry amour. but really.
